...and YOU know how this scenario goes.....looking back, having been on both sides of the breaking-up-is-hard-to-do table (but sometimes such a relief to get it over with)
I know What I said
Was a time I was getting right tight real fast with this guy The closest I’d known to that so-called love at first site A few short weeks, and we were signing a lease On a one bedroom with 2 sets of keys Bought dishes and curtains, it looked pretty certain That things were going just right Took about three months til I was feeling kind of restless He found my classified ad circled House to Share, female professionals He said hon, I’m stunned you told me I was the one You were sticking to, that it was love, it was true Now you’re planning to leave me, how could you deceive me? I was gonna spend my whole life with you [ew!!!] I know what I said; it seemed alright at the time I’s a little outta my head, not really in my right mind If I’s to do it again, instead of forever I’d say a long time I know what I said; somehow I just changed my mind A few Fridays later I’s with the girls out on the town My Perfect Man walked in and he sat right down About six foot tall, black hair brown eyes, I said I want in that game if yonder sits the prize I gave him a wink, he started buying me drinks Well, the rest of the weekend is a haze Monday morning I said, I’ll be back, I’m gonna pack up a few things He tells me, maybe you better take my spare key off your key ring I says ya SOB, told me you couldn’t live without me Cleaned out half your drawers, said babe this side is yours I’s getting my clothes, you’re saying hit the road Buster you sure got some nerve [he says eh]
I know what I said; I meant it all at the time The wine had gone to my head, so it’s not really lying If I’s to do it again, instead of move in, I’d say stop by sometimes I know what I said; somehow I just changed my mind [Instrumental for half a verse] Now this story has a moral -- and better yet an ending The lesson is that some relations just don’t end friendly If on-tap affection’s what you’re looking to get You might oughta stop by the Adopt-a-Pet A nice Pug or a Pekingese, curl right up on your knees Voila – je n’ai PAWS regret – and I’ve never heard one of them say yet I know what I said, hell it was my best line I’s dying to get in your bed –sure weren’t your first time If I’s to do it again, instead of don’t ever stop I’d say one more time I know what I said, somehow I just changed my mind I know what I said – but I ain’t gonna love you til I’m dead And I’ve just changed my mind
