Is there a way for me to respond to a specific negative comment without flaming myself on the listen and rate page? Do Flames make much difference in the judges decisions regarding weekly winners? I read my song comments on my account page. I vote for songs I like on the listen and rate page. ( one time, and sign my comment. ) ( occassionally i think of something to add. ) If I want to see what their comments are, after mine, I only rate them at their current flame. jeff
Huh. The envious twit ended the idiotic tirade with the advice-- enter a real contest. Probably means the kind you pay to enter then may never know if someone even listened to the song. Or maybe the same contest an acquaintance of mine recently won that probably everyone who entered won the same prize for-- he paid a $39 entry fee and won something like the President's Award for Most Promising New Country Song, some great title like that. His prize -- an MS Word-generated certificate, and a 10% discount on the contest-sponsor's DEMO SERVICES. Not mentioning any names, but probably everyone on this site has received this company's postal or email promotions about their world-renowned, star-making contests, judged by the most acclaimed, accomplished blah-blahs in the industry. Then he asked if he paid the $360 for the demo (vs. regular $400), then would they pitch the song to publishers and artists, since, hey, it won this prestigious award and they are such big shots. No real surprise the answer was, Oh no, we don't do anything like THAT. But our demo will be so awesome; YOU will have no trouble pitching it. And the version he entered was already an excellent, professionally done demo. That's probably how they figured he had some money they could milk him out of. Yeh, that's the kind of "real" contest everybody oughta enter to see how good they really are.
I think it's ok to respond to comments in the player. Make sure you flame yourself well. The flame rating means absolutely nothing when it comes to judging.
Without fail, poetry.com has loved everything I have submitted over the last 10 years. It is reassuring to know that they have qualified talent @ poetry.com that understands qualified talent when they read it.
Like I always say, you want a different opinion, ask me again in the morning :)
It isn't the negative criticism I have a problem with. Not at all. Besides, musical tastes are at least, somewhat subjective. It's the idea that I would or could influence the judges opinions simply by flaming myself or others to death. Winning the covetted winners circle spot is just as subjective,.. as you (or I), one may have been the only submission in that judging period. I have listened to many of the past winners and find a diverse range of artists and styles, all pretty much worthy of that spot here on AW. Far from rediculous, it's a fine testing ground, often with legitimate criticism worth taking.
