HARSH!

i know i've been over this before, and i promise i don't come to the table with anger, i was just hoping to get some more constructive reasons as to why my last 2 songs landed solid 1's? i'm gonna laugh when i take then to the studio, make 'em pretty, bring 'em back and they get 4's or 5's......

biggrinThere are some people on this site that manipulate the flame rating negatively for schizophrenic and immature reasons, and then you have the negative people that just don't know what constructive criticism is.  I just had someone tell me I gotta quit voting for myself on a fairly new song, and I had not manipulated it, (not that I haven't in the past), and they knocked down two of my songs.   It makes you want to put their nuts in a grinder, but I just blow it off.  And then you have the majority on the site that are actually sensitive to your feelings and desires, and want to be constructive.  I wouldn't pay much attention to the flame rating.  I think the administrators have a pretty good idea which songs are well done.  Just turn some peoples negativity around like I do and just write a better song that will make them think....... I know it's hard to set aside your feelings, and I've lost it a few times myself, but it's never worth it .  May I suggest a different site to you.  They have MB limits so you have to delete to make space as you go, but they mostly tend to focus on the positive.  It is
http://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/index.php  They tend to be a little fluffy, though.   And the Mother Ship of all sites is http://www.garageband.com/.  That's where you learn to give and receive decent reviews.  Check out mine and read some of my reviews.  You work hard to get your songs posted there, but it's worth it.  http://www.garageband.com/artist/markchristopher

Questions: Starts with a sound that sounds like rain, it is not artistic, it is a distraction...and the NOISE that comes in with the religious propaganda....is this a song on any level? Sure it is. And that damn lowend rumble...is that artistic in nature? No, it's a level you either could not discern or just do not have the engineering chops to EQ out. Do I get to give my opinion on it? Sure I do... 1 flame.

Automatic Weaponry Part 1(SCRATCH): Still got that lowend rumble outside your window...it's still annoying. Scratch means something to you...to me it means YOU don't take it seriously enough to give ME your best. Slurs and blurring lyrics, pointless guitar meandering and constant white noise and plosives. You want a better rating give a better performance. 1 Flame.

The issue is not with the AW site. It is with your opinions about your work...both of you and ALL of you INCLUDING me!!! Exactly how long does one continue to say "far out, thats nice, keep it up, your keyboard chops are getting better, what a cool song" before thier head explodes from the reality that the line never empties and the contestants are average, boardering on  suicidial!!

If you want a pretty thing to be said of your songs take them to friends, family, pay someone, and/or you can always go to garageband and powderpuffsongs.com, etc.

Hey I get defensive with the best of them :) But  reality is a cruel bed partner. You simpky cannot keep thinking "Mom said if nothing nice could be said then say nothing." Because for the most, that is EXACTLY what they think when they listen to our musical tunes.

So they say nothing...nada, zero ziltch!

If they would say more, my comments would have less impact! And THAT is a fact! Gavinbas doesn't participate here as much as he presents that he might so who is to blame, really, when there are only a few sides of a flipped coin here to operate on. Either you get Marks comments that are always respectful or the random visitor that does whatever they do or you get whatever it is that comes out of my head.

It is what it is.

Take it or leave it.

Grow some skin.

This is a saturated area of the Internet/world and you are always at threat from folks that are VERY, VERY good. So if you give the masses a peak into your brain and it is just not that exciting...like Mark said, use that energy to write another song with better craft, better musical ability, just better!!

As for me, I'l just keep on doing what I do. Time being the great equalizer it is, in time those that have thought of my comments as callous and negative will see that they were.

Well, that didn't come out right :)

haha i'm long since over being sensitive to the terrible comments some people leave, and i didn't expect to get too many on those songs, seeing as they are in the very early stages- thanks for your comments jack, mainly i was wondering about whether its completely the recording that turned people off or the actual song structure, and now at least i have a little better idea. i think your both right about getting over the negative ones and writing a "better" song but if you remember my comments from last summer i don't really believe its about being better but just better for certain crowds- i decided a long time ago to use this site simply to get some unabashed harsh feedback and see where these folks put my stuff- i hadn't gotten one flames ever before but then again i hadn't submitted anything so blatantly early in the process- you see i use this site to see if i should keep working on a song or not, to see if i should polish it up- not so much to submit the polished stuff. i do feel like i'm gonna keep going with Automatic Weaponry, but i'll submit something a little further along in the process. anyway, thanks guys and good luck with everything.
