It really is a tough call. I have found the last 2 weeks to be lacking a real clear "best" song, or even a couple ones that are better than the rest. Seems like usually one or 2 songs really stand out, but not so this week. I would have to say I like Barb Sharples "If I Told You My Heart Broke" and John Oakes Band "Something Funky."
I like John Oaks Band as well. Simple tight songs. I also am a Barb Sharples fan. I am not a big fan of country and "easy listening" but she has really got a flair.
I'd like to see multiple winners per week. Like have awards for each genre - Instrumentals, Vocals - country, jazz, rock etc. I think we're getting apples and oranges compared.
I don't know man. I tend to find that a lot of the stuff that wins here - or that is a "came close" song for the week is great, regardless of genre. To me, if a song is great, it is great, in spite of genre. The ONLY genre I would say is at a disadvantage is Instrumental. People just want to hear lyrics with their music. But, I was looking at some examples of the winners and close contenders for the last few weeks. They are pretty diverse, but all great. I mean, where else could you put together Barb Sharples, Aaron Lee Doyle, Ben Araiza, Steve Hanlon, and Adam Middleton and have them all in contention for the same thing? I like the fact that we each look at each song on its merits alone. I also like the fact that the songs recognized as the "best of the week" are so diverse. For example, look at March 11-17: Barb Sharples, Appendix, and Aaron Lee Doyle? That's awesome! Those three couldn't be more different from each other, but they each had a great song that week. I like that they were all in the running for the same title.
