We had some clown who decided to leave some rather negative feedback in the comments section of some songs. While the issue of negative feedback is up for debate, and a few folks here don't like it all that much, there were three things in particular that were totally unacceptable with this feedback:
The feedback was abusive (ie, beyond the typical "This song sucks" stuff).
The feedback was laced with profanity, which is abusive too I guess.
The person who left this signed the name "Brad Benton" to it. Brad did not leave the feedback.
We obviously want a free flow of communication, particulary when telling people what you really think of their song, but there are some limitations.
We would encourage anyone to email Clayton at support@artistweekly.com if there is a comment on a song or post in the forums that fits one of the three criteria above. He will be sure to fix the problem.
I've been a member of this site for about twenty minutes now, and I hate it. All the comments are so petty, patronising and soulless..
Nobody here seems to care for the song of anyone else.. We are human! we're just making some music for crying out loud.. Stop anylizing the details, you all sound like ****s.
I'm definately not putting my music up on this site...
God it's so wishy washy here i hate it. And i say this in no immature way.
I'm a member of iCompositions.com. (best music site ever... go there) And over there we like to encourage one another, and im not trying to be preachy here... but really.. lighten up folks. Nobody can grow musically in such a hostile environment. And change the ratings system.. its pathetic. 'Blazing' just reminds me of the charts, and all the competing and 'winning' involved.. and the charts is all crap music. This is people's little music. The people's music counts.. Listen with your hearts next time. jeez..
Ok.. it's 7:20am. I've got to go to bed.. Seriously, i say all this in no immature manner. Help eachother out. Help eachothers music grow.
And if I get a snidey comment on this post then I'll... well.. i'l just leave i suppose.
Ugh... looking and commenting some more music... you people are so horrible to eachothers music!
What is this all about ?
You people shouldnt make music if it means so little to you. You're all cruel.
Music isn't all about production and perfection.. It's about heart and soul.
I understand constructive criticism, but this is enough to make someone angry... I'm angry at how you people give such a bad name to music.
Again, i'm not saying this in a childish manner.. I'm 18.. ive been making music on computers for about 8 years now.. and if people were to give me feedback like that i'd simply leave.
If anyone else hates it here (the whole site's really bland actually. It's quite like an empty warehouse with a few boxes in it) Then come to iCompositions.com. People are decent there.
Admit it man, you're just afraid someone will tell you the truth, that maybe your music sucks, and I say this in no childish manner. The reason you like iCompositions is because they coddle you over there, tell you you're doing great when in fact you're not. You think that's going to help someone improve? NOPE, and I say this in no immature way. Yeah, there's ridiculous comments here, but so what? Lighten up, laugh it off and go on to the next. Get a backbone, grow some skin. Usually when people are as sensitive as you it means only one thing: they have a guilty conscience of sorts, in that case, because you know deep down your music is not very strong. If you were truly proud of it and were confident it stands on its own merits you would not be afraid to post it anywhere. You would know what comments are valuable and what are not. Again, you are a scared little guy afraid of finding out the truth. I feel sorry for you, and I say this in no childish manner. (You have a complex about being immature and childish by the way.)
You can find homebrand on the site he mentioned, icompositions.com, where you will find over 100 of his compositions. Homebrand is his user name. I listened to parts of a couple of his tunes. I'm not really into loops or electronica, so I left rather hastily, but I didn't slam him. He's but a boy, and he wouldn't want to hear what I had to say anyway.
Wow... see this is what I mean! All you're doing there is being bitter for the sake of it!
I'll have you know I'm actually one of the nicest people you could come across, and my music is good. I'm just not big headed enough to say it.. and I happen to be a rather sensitive person too.
I'm not even going to justify myself about the 'immature complex' that you have created here.. It obviously makes you feel big. So i'll let you have that one.
I'm not trying to have a serious go at anyone here.. but well, you all deserve what you get.
Yes, I get coddled over at iComp! It's better than getting rammed up the arse for stating my opinions! It's easy to just make friends with people over there, and we, as friends help eachother out.. and just make do with what we hear. I'm not planning to make money from my music. It would be nice to earn a little but It's not what it's all about. I make my music from deep within. Something you people obviously cannot handle, and therefor lash out with criticisms and snide comments.
So... fair enough really.
And by the way, I'm 18 yes.. but I'm no 'little guy' or whatever you called me there. And anyway, what difference would it make? I'm speaking words of shining light, and it has evidently blinded you. Be a bit more proactive, rather than reactive.
Anyway guys... 'Nice' talking to y'all, but well.. I don't need any of you. Goodbye.
maybe if you had to actually leave your name along with your rude comments you wouldn't be so quick to trash every piece of music that is posted. this site will never be taken seriously. it's more like an out-of-control frat house than a serious music site. where are the moderators? pathetic, really.
Well, Homebrand, I can only say sorry that you don't feel like posting your songs here. I also hope you enjoy your other site, and get some sort of commission for coming here, blasting ours, then pimping theirs.
It's true that we don't have a locked down, sanitized 'listening room' atmosphere here. But just like in the real world, people say things under the protection of anonymity that they would never say in front of a person. That's good and bad.
The good part is that you can (hopefully) find out exactly what the man on the street might think about your music. That sort of information is probably fairly valuable if you ever want to get any commercial success in the industry.
The bad part is that hooligans quickly turn to hooliganism when given the opportunity to behave however they would like under the cover of darkness (in this case, anonymous posts and comments). We don't like that any more than you do, and we have begun to increase the pressure on those we can by deleting comments that are truly worthless or offensive.
This site is fairly active, so there is no way to filter every single comment through a censorship board before it goes up. We watch them, catch them when we can, and are now actively deleting them. We may lock everything down and force logins for rating and comments at some point, but this is how the site operates now.
You may also have noticed that you are not bombarded with ads here - in fact, there are no ads, just a link to a software partner's website. You may also notice that it is free. Free to join and free to post songs. We are not in this to make money, we are in it to hear and discover good music. We also offer that ability to anyone who wants to stroll by and check us out.
Perhaps you can create an entire music site on your own time, offer it to people for free, and maintain it for free, then deal with complaints from people for free....but until then - maybe you could upload some of your music and leave long, detailed, relevant and upbeat feedback and give us a hand? We have many wonderful contributors here, and are always looking for more....
I just don't have time for this. Suffice it to say that AW probably doesn't want to spend the money for the extra bandwidth required to upload magnus' catalog of samples, loops, rants, covers and other assorted Poo.
If he's here pimping for Icomposisions.com, he's doing a bad job of it. Checking up on him was just purely painful, not to mention slow.
Thanks AW for keeping it honest, easy to use and quick!
