Hey AW forum users. I just had something explained to me by myself that I thought someone in particular might need to know...the dumbass that typed this comment:
"Blackbird singin in the dead of niiiiiiight.... guess you have to be an AW regular to get over 3 flames for something like this...... no wonder this site gets no respect"
Ok, so as we all are aware, the flame rating system is comprised of 5(five) flames.
I'll break it up numerically first. 5 is equal to 100. 100 divided by 5 equals 20. This represents that one(1) flame is equal to 20 percent.
That means out of a possible 100 percent, if you get one flame it means you have a 20 percent song.
In the above mentioned tune there is currently a rating of three(3) flames. As you should recall one(1) flame is equal to 20 percent. So 3 flames is equal to (3X20=60) 60 percent.
Let me preach on. How about if we use a grading system like is used world wide in America. In this system a 5(five) flame rated song would be equal to a grade letter A!!!
Continued subtraction will produce 4 flames= B, 3 flames = C. We need go no farther.
3 flames is what the song has. So it gets graded a C. What is a C? Passing. That's it. Passing or 60 percent.
It's not a B or an A!!!
So this is my question to the yahoolagin that left the comment: "Blackbird singin in the dead of niiiiiiight.... guess you have to be an AW regular to get over 3 flames for something like this...... no wonder this site gets no respect"
I effectively got a C from my peers. 60 percent of 100. Passing
Exactly what is it that you read into getting a damn C that pisses you off and prompts you to leave a comment like that saying the song deserved less?
You had the opportunity to speak up and address where it failed according to your understanding of where you thought it should have gone, why didn't you?
Aw, heck, Jack, you know better'n to let the turkeys get ya down!
I think the site's been invaded by a Phantom Whiner, the same one who hit Jeff, Mark, Brian B. It's the same complaint, your ratings are too high, whah, whah, whah. Maybe the moe-ron didn't notice BC already SAID the peer ratings don't determine the winner anyway........probably thought the Blackbird thing was reeeeeeeeeal clever
But, it can often be a fair reference to what AW visitors vote. Usually a songs rating after say 3 or 4 weeks doesn't change anymore. The "reply" count may continue to increase but the flame rating has been established.
Good songs usually stay rated high and barely passing C rated songs pretty much stay at C or 60 percent.
Naw I'm not bothered, fact is we all think "A" or "A"ish, when doing them. Then they get on to AW and the collective dails in a wakeup call :)
I'll take my C. It's a fair grade coming from these coyotes!
It's real world and that is a place I am trying to become more familier with
quote]I quote another regular: "Jack, Nice take on this old musical theme. I often find myself returning this old chord progession." Your song is nothing but a very common "technique" altered just enough to call it a new song. Although it was above 3 flames at the time I wrote my comment, 60% is too generous, period. BUT, at this site, regulars do not flame-out regulars. They just don't, whether you like to admit it or not. The site that is supposed to be so cruel is actually nothing more than another nauseating pat on the back when it comes to regulars rating regulars. Your massive ego is impressive, but it's not helping you write better songs. Live with it. /quote]
Read that and puke!!! My massive ego is impressive!!!! What the hell does that have to do with your jean claude van-damn interpretations of the world?
What the heck does "regulars do not flame-out regulars" mean?
Does that mean give 'em all 5 flames when you really want to throwup? That doen't happen here to me or anyone. The rating system is fair and it is often very accurate.
It is when it gets PERSONAL that the system looks to give favor to one when in fact it is not that way at all. There are "thin" weeks when what gets picked may not be your cup-of-tea, but in the final look, it was what it was.
Your song is nothing but a very common "technique" altered just enough to call it a new song. Based on that, my first night with my wife should have been my last night! Because, why do the same thing over and over again, it was as good as it was gonna get the first time it was done that is why NO ON should do it again!!!
