Hey everyone. As part of our decision to go straight up free on song postings, one of the things we thought might happen is that songwriters would start posting everything they have. While we hoped that this would happen, I must say we hoped it would happen gradually - that is that each of you would eventually post all of your stuff, just not at once. The rationale goes thusly: We think it is a great idea for people to post all of their stuff, particularly songs that may be a "work in progress." This would be particularly cool if you are trying to get some real feedback while still crafting the song. The real issue as I see it with posting so many of your songs at once is that people can get "overwhelmed" and have a hard time giving constructive feedback. Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time listening to more than a couple songs by the same artist when I am in "feedback" mode. Just so you know, I am making no official statment for the AW team, nor am I telling you that we have any rules in place to prohibit posting a lot of songs at once. I am just telling you that from my personal perspective, posting a lot of songs may be counter-productive to what I know you all want, valuable feedback.
That being said, many thanks for sharing your music with AW. The last 5 or so months have been awesome. I am really amazed at how much great talent and superb craftsmanship is out there.
I agree, and I think maybe you could limit the number of uploads in a week per person. This is probably a tech. hassle, but having people put (it seems) everything and Anything they may have commited to tape is not very pleasant. The writers were a little more selective about there work prior to this week.
Agreed - we are looking into setting up a "one upload per day" solution, to at least take the edge off. Once a week may be a little harsh, but we'll see how it goes...
That's an interesting point that I hadn't thought of. I'm not sure what the best alternative would be, though. I imagine if we made it where the artist name had to be unique, people would STILL try to get past that for some reason and use "Artist", then "Art1st", or something like that.
I don't understand the compulsion people have to post 10 songs in a row - it doesn't do them any good. People don't want to listen to and comment on 10 songs in a row for any artist. It gets tiring, and I would think that the comments would suffer.
Anyway, who knows why people do goofy things. We will come up with some sort of restrictions, as well as keep working on a better way to present the song list on the listen page.
Maybe a "cookie" that only allows one upload per day per computer, regardless of Artist name? By the way, NS connection is only posting 3 songs per week, in case you thought WE were a problem.

Ronnie, when are we going to have the chance to buy Barb's album? She really is a great talent. Keep us posted on her, the Mallorys, etc...
