FREE OR NOT ( YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !)

When I found Artist Weekly 2 months ago, I was so impressed and excited.

For ONLY $5.00, I could share my music with the World Wide Web.

For Only $10.00, I could get someone in the Business to give me advice how to improve.

I would simply pay twice that. For this opportunity.

The wonderful Artists I had never heard but quickly became a fan of were all here.

Extremely Talented people that may not be MAIN STREAM, but deserve an audience none the less.

If you aren't good enough to make 5 or 10 dollars as an artist, then you need to practice more.

I remember when I made $10.00 for my performance, and spent it on a new set of guitar strings.

That's the job. You make some money and pour right back into being better.

I have made my feelings clear about my respect for this site.

What an incredible NETWORK.

It Provides the Potential for us to find each other, work together, and MAYBE become sucessfull, in Spite of ourselves. ( Our EGO's, DEMON'S, VICE'S, and insecuritys. )

Dear A.W. , For what ever reason you decided to go free $. I truely believe it may KILL this site. If there is ANYTHING I can do to help you. I hope that maybe a few others feel the way I do.

AGAIN, I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR CREATING THIS WEB PAGE.

I hope my comments will be well taken, as are yours.

SINCERELY JEFF ELLIOT

J,

This site is young, and we are continually tweaking it to find the best way of doing things. Making the site free may be a mistake, or it may be a great idea -- We just don't know yet. My guess is that we'll get a lot more users and more people to contribute their feedback. I think the flood of new songs will subside pretty soon. Don't worry -- the talented artists will continue to rise to the top. We've been toying around with the idea of a low cost subscription for the more serious artists. Anyway, stay tuned.

Thank you BC.

I didn't mean to chastise. Most certainly not A.W. But maybe some people are taking it for granted.

there is just way too many GOOD songs missing from this page TOO SOON !

Not Mine, Please don't think that is my motive. NOT AT ALL !

I really do believe, you know what I mean.

Of Course I will Stay. I already have friends here. You included I hope.

I hope you're right BC, that "the flood of new songs will subside pretty soon" because whereas material is so quickly pushed way down or even off the page, we're actually getting less feedback, and the talented artists can't rise to the top when they're being buried. I'm thinking of holding off posting my "NS stable mates" until things stabilize a bit. When the site was down for awhile earlier in the week, I was hoping you were removing 14 of the 15 buddy submitted on Monday. We were asked to put no more than one up per day, but everyone's ignoring it. Anyway, we ain't gwan nowhere...maybe just sit in the shade for awhile. Thanks again for this great site!

It was at least stable and we had expacted parameters/borders to control behavior. When those were removed, well, there's your sign:)

Your right BC, You are a Very young site. Just this year, ( as far as I can tell. )

In 5 months you have grown conciderably. I hope you are planning to stick around for awhile. In two years from now who knows how big you will grow. I believe it will snowball. One artist telling another about this site. That new artist telling another...on and on. It Will get HUGE !!!

If you were in it for the money, I think all of us here would be wise to buy stock shares. Even at $5.00 per song.

BLESS YOU, for being in it for the Sake of music. How pleased and excited you must have been when the First New Artist posted a song. ( Who was that, by the way ?) (Hall of Fame?) I know you will work out the Kinks in this site, Just as we are all trying to work out the kinks in our songs. WHAT A WONDERFUL SITE . LOL - JEFF

Thanks rb, I see that you decided to continue your support of Artist Weekly, and submitted new songs and artists for the general public to hear Right Now !!! Inspite of the clutter. I did the same. GOOD BOY, I absolutly love them. Jeff Elliot

An Idea

What would you think about requiring members to review a select number of songs for each song of their own they wished to upload?

Songs could be divided into two lists, or categories.  List number one would be new uploads.  List number two would be songs that have received a minimum of 10 reviews.  To upload a song, members must log in and review at least 3 songs from the new uploads list.  Anyone could still review any song from either list when not uploading, but with this method, new uploads would be assured at least 10 reviews.  Although this might not be a big problem solver, it does require a little more commitment from members who wish to upload and could help a little in a couple of areas.  The numbers I used above were for example only of course.

Just an idea.  Any thoughts?

That sounds like a great idea - though it would probably be best for people to review genres they are most comfortable with.
