I kinda wish people would give their actual opinions to go with the flame ratings.........I'm more interested in what they have to say about what is good or bad about the songs........It's hard to get an idea about what would need improvement when just the flame ratings are used.
If you start or stay at a low flame meter level, like say 2 or less, this is what we refer to as a "you suck" flame meter level. You are going to get verbally ripped apart. Your sexuality will be questioned as will your ability to hold a job. Prolly nothing of any use about the song.
If you get a bunch of ratings and the "flame" meter stays at about 3 flames, then pretty much anything that needs to be improved in the song, needs to be improved.
When you have something of moderate value, you may get up to a 3.5 on the flame meter. Suggestions start coming in, interspersed between the "you still suck" meter levels, but your getting above the noise level, now they have to find creative ways to say "you suck" without saying it.
If you can get to a flame meter level of 4 and sustain it, without your family or friends pushing it up(or you doing it yourself as many have been accused of but no proof ever given to the contrary), then you have reached what I would call "flame meter level nirvana." Oh sure some ass is going to tell you why you suck, but now your beaming and practically glowing in the dark because of your new found success. Hey Mikey, he likes it!
I have never seen a flame meter level of 5 sustained for anything more then a minute or two. The "you suck" patrol will keep pushing the flame level down until it is at thier perceived acceptable level.
Just consider yourself lucky no one shows up at your front door to personally light your flames for you:>
What I want to know is why do people spend so much comment area telling me why "I would give ya a 2.3 flame but instead maybe just a 1 flame, course if this was a 1 to 10 scale you would only get a 3 flame..." blah blah blah. I mean really! What do I care what you think about the equitable distribution of flames and the saving there of from restraint?
What do I care what you think about the equitable distribution of flames and the saving there of from restraint?
Uh, gee, could it be that they're trying to give you an evaluation of how your song fits within the flame ratings in their eyes? And perhaps when the equitable conclusion they arrive at does not fit squarely within the confines of this system they attempt to offer you a more accurate rating by splitting the flames and/or enhancing them with their own ideas, thereby presenting you with the best possible result as they see it. Is this worse than no comment at all? Maybe you should be flattered someone took the time to rate your song as accurately as possible.
What do you care about the blah blah blah you say? Did you not post the song to receive comments and ratings? And then you complain when you get them? Poor baby, I hope you didn't get hurt too badly. I believe there's a band-aid at disney.com if you'd like to go there.
I guess you must be one of those people that doesn't have a clue as to the components of a musical composition and have to give a detailed explainiation of your "flamedom" in order I suppose to cover for some other short comings. Sorry I brought it up...damn, I did it again:)
BTW...that was in addition to the comments. If a flame rating were given to helpful comments VS the explaination of the flame division, the flame division explaination would get a "you suck" and 1/2 flame. Just tell me what sucks about the song don't bore me with details about the flames. The current flame status is all that is required. If I maintain a 3 flame on the meter and some loser goes on and on for days about why he/she gave a 2.5 instead of a three...big dealy, overall it's a three!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think your britches are stuck in the garage. I've read hundreds of comments and never noticed anyone going on "for days" about partial flame ratings. All your posts tell me is that people will complain about anything, or at least you will. Do you think that your whining about it is any better than someone posting it? Be thankful for what you get, at least people tell the truth here.
I give this forum post 2 flames. I'd give it 2.3 flames, but I can't because the flamometer limits me to 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or the occaisional 1. I guess I could just round up, but most mathematicians agree that rounding down to two from 2.3 is most appropriate. So rather than fly in the face of convention, Two flames, although I intended 2.3, but I cannot inimate why I felt that way I just did.
See if I can help. If you start or stay at a low flame meter level, like say 2 or less, this is what we refer to as a "you suck" flame meter level. You are going to get verbally ripped apart. Sounds like someone has a chip on thier shoulder... Perhaps your music does suck and you can't handle it?
Well, that narrows it down to about 95% of the music here, including even the occaisional weekly winner. But we're all trying to get better, aren't we, I hope? And if we were all getting fives all the time, would we try as hard? I wouldn't. I'd think I was the bomb, which I am not.
So you are suggesting that someone rating others low is really rating himself? Now that's some messed up logic!
Who Sucks? wrote: Sounds like someone has a chip on thier shoulder... Perhaps your music does suck and you can't handle it?
Yes sir it does read like someone has a chip on his/her shoulder. But since we do not know to what level you are capable of playing we can only assume that you suck.
That being said, it is up to the who sucks song poster to try to weave and jump around the obstacles to avoid people who sucks.
This is not easily done who sucks.
If I didn't believe in my work, I would not make it available to this crowd or to you who sucks. So a whole page of who sucks can not alter my opinion about what the value of my work is.
Check this out who sucks. If I was so mentally incomplete to consider that my music would appeal to EVER pair of ears a whole family of who sucks would not slow me down....I would be insane ANYWAY!
AA, you and/or others need to resolve your issue of not taking criticism very well. I find it amazing that anyone would, A) Be so arrogant as to think their music is beyond criticism, B) So ignorant as to think their music won't be criticized, and C) So naive as to think that in this big bad world only "positive" reinforcement is what should be given.
And, yes, I do suck. I admit the few "songs" I have written totally blow. But, I am proud of them, I like to play them for my kids, and I am constantly working on making them better. You know what though? Even if I was making zillions off of my songs there would still be idiots who say "that sucks." Why worry about it? Just put up music, hope for some legit feedback and advice (if you aren't too good for it), and get a clue when the song is rated poorly and everyone says it sucks.
Even if I was making zillions off of my songs there would still be idiots who say "that sucks."
Just a thought... a person is not an idiot because he or she thinks a song sucks. The truth is, the song really does suck in that person's mind. We tend to forget things like this.
I think I and who sucks are on different pages here. See, I don't think my stuff is "all that." Not even. What I am saying, and it's close to what you are trying to employ is that it doesn't matter about the "you suck" to me. I don't care, I laugh in the face of you suck. Because these simple words are just not enough to get me up in the air about it.
Far be it from me sitting in my lazy chair eating chips and swillin' beer not having play anything in many months to think that I am that good. I mean, I am, but I don't throw it in everyones face, well except for that coffee dude. He gets on my nerves.
Now being misunderstood...that's a whole nother can of peanuts.
