I would be interested to hear comments from singers about their vocal range, preferred key, things you have trouble with and any other bit of info that could be useful to non-performing songwriters. (I know one personally.)
I have done some research on this but I think it would be more interesting to hear it directly from singers themselves - get those little things that aren't necessarily included within articles on the subject. Obviously something like preferred key (for example) is not an issue for songwriters, but for me at least, it's a point of interest. (My own singing is useful for terrifying small animals but not much good otherwise, so you see where the interest comes in.)
Can you help me out? What is your personal range, and from which note to which? What key do you prefer to sing in? Are there specific things that give you troubles, for example, a 3 octave trill? Any thing else you can add? Thanks a bunch.
I have a two octave range, not much to brag about. It seems to be going down in key range, so I will have to recheck and get back to you. I am most comfortable singing in B-flat
Debbie has a true 3 and one half octave vocal range,( and then some,) but seems to be most comfortable singing one fifth above me. She does have a little trouble breaking out of her comfort range, I wish she would trust her gift a little more, But I do paticularly LOVE the range she sings well in.
Exchange Your Range, is an excellent question. Bless you. Hope we can help you in any way!
So long as you prmoise not to ask my bra size..(44 AA)
Anyway 3 octaves + of useable range. It migrates a little, depending on whether I'm warmed up or not. Low note is two c' s below middle C. High note is the E after the c one ocatave up from middle C The whole thing used to be half an octave higher at least, but it's landing finally in "Man" range.
Because I have a pretty good range I can sing in just about any key, but my natural is Bb Concert (trumpet player). I write and perform in whatever key strikes me, but generally speaking unless I'm capo-ing, G,D,C,E,A, just to keep it relatively simple.
