Raw&Real

Just want to share this tune I bumped into. Isn't it refreshing to hear something so raw and real in these days of slick, overproduced music?..

RE: Raw&Real

The Evening Call

I had my fun, my fun had me
And from beneath her parasol
She said "good bye, old used to be--
Get ready for the evening call"

She has grown cold, but how warm she was--
The morning lawn writes history
In lost high heels and empty cups
Whose lipstick stains are kissing me

How chill the air, and my heart is poor
How low the sun, how high the wall
Sweet music drifting out my door
Merges with the evening call

I had my fun, my fun had me
So slow she turns, and swaying goes
To a young man beneath a shady tree
Who there undoes her pretty clothes

Probably shouldn't be flaunting off-site music, but I couldn't keep this guy (Greg Brown) to myself. First his raw (nothin' fancy) music got to me, and now his bitchin' lyrics! No response is required here. Just wanted to share. Hope you enjoy him too. "How low the sun, how high the wall"..

Thanks BC, for allowing this (not what AW's about) exception! What a unique room we have here. All sorts do flourish (haha)!..

Maybe Barb Sharples fits in here! About everything she's recorded has been submitted, except this one non-original. Thought you might enjoy "Wild Mountain Thyme" Nova Scotia=New Scotland..

yup, this guy is something allright.

i have had the pleasure of crossing paths with greg brown several times back in the early 80s in stone city iowa.  my brother and i had an acoustic duo.  i'm sure he wouldn't know me from a hill of beans, but i remembered him.

Greg Brown is great - have several of his CDs as well as a tribute CD to him done by all-female perfomers, including his wife Iris Demitt (spelling may be wrong) doing The Train That Carried Jimmy Rogers Home; that's a great song.

For someone on the lighter, side check out Phil Lee - click on A Night in the Box toward the bottom half of this page - he's pretty cool in a rockabilly kinda way, hahaha
