So, whats up with the angry posts on the comment part of this site , i mean listen to the songs ................ hey! i have an idea! .......try being supportive , make comments with something viable to give! ..........does that sound good ? ...........I have never been on a site with so many jealous ****s in my life! If i were to guess this has got to be somekind of southern thang? Am i right?Let me know. peace and love CUZIN D
Anger and overreaction will keep you from getting anything out of this site. Anger and overreaction will convince you that your music is perfect, and anyone who says anything negative must be even angrier than you, and stupid. Anger and overreaction will alienate you from people on this site who can provide valuable feedback to help you grow as an artist. This site was designed (by a New Yorker, thank you very much) to elicit thoughtful comments as well as knee-jerk reactions in such a way that people won't be penalized or ostracized for voicing their true opinion. There are several sites where you can find friendly supportive people -- we have a couple of those too, but isn't it also important to hear what people don't like about your music? Or didn't you think that was possible? Anger and overreaction are defined in large part by self image and ego, therefore they are almost exclusively the realm of the commentee, not the commentor. Basically, the average listener here wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, so saying that your music drives them to anger is a bit of an overstatement. You can't please everybody, and those who try invariably suck. So see if there is anything of value in negative comments, if so - use it, if not - move on -- everybody else did.
This theme re-surfaces pretty regularly here. BC, I appreciate that the anonymnity is supposed to help foster honest, unconstrained reactions and criticism, and that can be a good thing - there are sites where all everybody does is tell each other how great they are, when in reality some songs are downright awful. I do see some helpful, though harshly stated, critiques here that artists should be thick-skinned enough to glean the benefits of. But good gawd, the name calling, personal attacks, and degree of crudeness are so prevalent. Recent examples (copied and pasted, illiteracy and all)-
Not another Average White Girl with a box Guitar? Oh by the way Clean up the noise Get to a studio or get Waves honey!
You suck!!!! and those bad cords you have suck too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jezz, you won already, quite ruining my speakers bone-head.
ok now I have seen it all- YOU ARE A FAGGOT DUDE- AND FOR VOTING FOR YOURSELF YE SHALL RECEIVE INSTANT KARMA- SIGNED, THE JUSTICE BARON.
ok, now i have seen it all! this cat that wrote the same thing like 15 times!!!!!!!!! prozac is an alternative pal, and i think you need it! i am not sure if they make coward pills too but you might want to look into that. I feel sorry for you.
what the hell is this? were you sitting in the romp room singing to your infant child or something? you should lay off those hallucinigenics when in front of your small child you know.....
Bone head - Faggot - You suck ??? And these are just random samples. BC, when you posted the note asking for marketing help for the site, I was really torn - on the one hand, I do see some good critiques, but in general, those are overshadowed by just plain rude and nasty venting. I still favor users, including commentors, registering and being at least minimally accountable for their remarks. I really don't think it would infringe on the honesty of the legitimate comments, but I think it would eliminate most of the real garbage.
That said.....Cuzin D, don't lower yourself to the idiots' level by lashing out with equally crude and destructive statements - you're just giving the pr***s the satisfaction of knowing they got to you big time.
I'll take the bad with the good. We've had a few of these weirdos pass through here that just want to start trouble. We let them make a few posts and then we start deleting them. They get bored and move on. I am absolutely convinced that this site would lose its honesty and its edge if we made people register. Sharon, I do appreciate your input, but you've been around here long enough to know that some comments are good and some are worthless. When people have to register, all comments are worthless because nobody is willing to tell the truth. Some songs are really awful and deserve harsh critiques.
First five songs (as of today 12/28/2006) and a random selection of "opinions", one from each song and as was pointed out previous...illiteracy and all.
"Don't know why this doesn't "hit" me (good though)."
"Easy listen (..main thing)!"
"I can see why this has not been rated. Somebody wants to say, "gawd what tired ass lyrics", but this piece doe not need any. Some loser is aching to post "my mama picks better guitar", but really has no mama:) This is a good number Mr. Mallory. I got a sense that the solitude was not completely an undesirable state of place. Anything else that comes after this post is rubbish. Do not be decieved. This is jusy damn easy to listen to."
"Good songwritting structure, but you desperately need a melody here. Measure after measure of that strained voice hitting the same three notes is tiring. But rethink the melody and this could be a very cool song. It really is well written. 3/5"
"...good guitar and fantastic vocals,, look forward to seeing you in the lime light someday soon"
BC, you are right, some comments are good and some worthless and I acknowledged that. We just disagree about losing the honesty if people are registered - I think the ones with something legitimate to say would say it regardless and would probably even work harder at making intelligent, useful comments. Just my thoughts, it's all been speculated on before.
I think what Jack was getting at is that some good comments are plagued by the illiteracy factor as well as the bad ones, and his intention was to point out some good, though somewhat linguistically cryptic, ones. But Jack, correct me if I've misinterpretted. Actually, if I am correct in understanding you....that's kinda scary...!
Hey , you are right ! i just thought it wasnt a competetion, i thought we are all artists and should generaly respect that. Its not that i think i am beyond criticism , i am not! The truth is that i dont really care what anyone thinks of my music. I make it because i love it and i feel i have something to say. What is interpreted is up to the listener . My point being .......its all pop music #1 so how seriously do we all take ourselves? Its supposed to be fun #2 so have fun. Hate mail is for cowards #3. I am sorry for any foul words i have written in the past and i hope everyone has a happy new year! except for that dude i hope he breaks a string LOL PEACE AND LOVE CUZIN D
...that is EXACTLY (what BC typed)my point! Some people see the bad and I showed that there are 5 solid, in a row...good things if one would look.
Jezz, why I do I even try....
Ms. O, only thing ticks me off more then a pedant is one with an easy chair psychology license. That means...I do NOT critique spelling and/or grammer, currently that seems to be your stichk.
Cuzin D....If it was not competition there would be no "weekly" in the whole weeklyartist thang. I can sum it up for ya. CuzinD put the best song out here, we liked it, said so and THEN you gave us something to compare it to.
Everyone has gone through that.
If 3doorsdown showcased thier current release right here right now I would explain in DETAIL what it is that I do not like about the pedestrian cop out attitude of the main character in saying "you don't understand me just let me go."
Last time I wrote that line 3D was not even in thier Pampers pull-ups!
But they seem to have a bit more going for them so I suppose they will not be showing up here at least this year:)
Jack - Don't know what you see in anything I said that shows "easy chair psychology" (HUH?) or a desire to critique spelling / grammar. It would just be nice to be able to comprehend what people have written without re-reading it two or three times. The fact that the first statement BC wrote is "I'm not sure of your point" seems to indicate the thinking and intent in the comments you quote is kinda hard to follow - it does look like there are some good critiques there, but it's a struggle to get through them.
hang on, I gotta re-read my post for spil chicken.

NOW it's better:
ArtistWeekly is THE freak show of the WWW! HAPPY BIRTHDAY AW!!!!
6 songs submitted by SugarNutz - 4 quality comments made by ME - 1 (the recent one where you, RB, showed your a/s/s) has not evolved enough to comment on as of this writing;)
That's, hang on, 5 songs...divide by three, ah...80 percent of the stuff submitted by the source in question ... EYE made a comment on.
You commented on (1)one. What a pot calling the kettle long distance!!!
How's that for making you look like a fifth grader trying to pick a fight?
And it's kryptonite, ya drop out.
=============REASON FOR THIS POST==============
On or about 01/18/2007 the comment:
"Easy-to-listen-to music rates high with me. Too many on this site (esp. the sharks and vultures) rely on lyrics they can pick apart, and when there are none, it's like Superman getting a dose of krypton. Don't know why they (so academic) can't just back off and enjoy MUSIC (maybe one too many song-writing courses?)!..4..(RB)"
was made in the comments section of the artist Sugarnuts tune "Champipple"
Shark Bait(just to give EYE another plug): http://artistweekly.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=81105&p=3&topicID=7267816
Since there are only five active contributing people, it is safe to assume this is a net cast in my waters. Or maybe I'm just paranoid...casting aspeeersions, yea, that's the ticket...
Whoa JackO, take a sedative! My little emotional outburst in the "comments area" wasn't directed at you or any other individual, but at the prevailing "out of proportion" bias favoring lyrics over music that I've witnessed through the hundreds of comments I've read over the last 10 months, and no, I wouldn't say you're paranoid, but maybe only a little self-centered. After all, we boys apparently don't grow up until around age 55, and I hope I live long enough to witness that wonderous event!
