Does every song need a cum shot?

OK, so does every song need to measured by length and the cliche that it should ultimatley cum all over you by the end? Sorry to be so crewd but i have been reading my comments and it makes me wonder......does the listner think i am writing for him or her? If the listener thinks that then music is dead ! I would never do that.....well almost never........How about the listner takes the time to listen and maybe learn something , expeirience something, try and hear something he or she has not heard or felt before?
I think my biggest gripe with the music scene is that the listner thinks he or she should be catered to!!!!!!!" thats all i get" you made me wait around" " you made me wait so long for the payoff!!!!thats my fav. (THE PAYOFF.......OK Clive , whatever you say)... you know things like that. Its so 2007. and it makes me want to go into the noise genre!

.............AND TO BE CONTINUED!

Here's what I mean when I say those things. It means the song is marginal, average.

It is, in the end, my ears and my opinion...just that.

In order for it to go to the next level there has to be something, a "payoff", a connection....something more then age old dribble from an overused pen.

If, like you say, you only do it for you, in the words of King James "verily a say unto you, you have your reward."

But if you want me, a pair of ears, a listener, to become involved in ANY manner with the support of a song, it is up to the author, creator, to give me the listener something that they can attach to or connect with.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the writer knows what the song is about the listener does not so it is the job of the author to help me understand where it is I am being led to.

Unless, of course, talent just drips off of you like the sweat off of Jimmy Page or Celine Dion.

You have nothing to teach the listener they are not listening to learn so the experience IS in the listening.

You job is to take what happens to you, realize it has been happening to humans for thousands of years and find an interesting why to give that back to them in a way that does not make them want to puke.

One last thing. If you think you are so good and so talented, that you are at a level so far above the SWELLING thousands of other musicians that think they are so good and so talented you need to quite talking to your family and pay attention to what your audience is saying.

Ultimately, the audience, or fan base, will reward you...or throw you out the back door and steal your cigerettes.

Believe what you want to believe.

You have good work here and I dig it...got a number last week right?
But I don't slow down just because you hit a number. You send another one, I'm gonna look at it with the same pair of ears, because you gave me good work...then you slipped in a filler...I don't do fillers.

Jack -- Ding Ding Ding -- we have a winner. Well made point. Music is a form of expression, not inner thought. If you are expressing, you are trying to help the listener understand where you're coming from. The real trick to songwriting is to lead your listeners down the path you've created and have them arrive at the destination you intended. If your listeners consistently don't "get it" then at some point you need to examine the path you built and see where you're losing people. But don't tell me that you're only writing songs for you, 'cause that's BS. That's a defensive and egotistical point of view that ultimately does you no good. Your music is a gift to share, and playing for the people's appreciation is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

Take away the template ideal? Single-handedly? Your gonna burn generations old guidelines that raised the generation of musicians that raised you?

You wanna do something new...hell I encourage it! But be prepared for success to sleep in that day, because failure you'll meet more then the other.

I don't think it is because people are unwilling to change, on the contrary.

But in persuit of a templateless ideal, do not be surprised if the G.P. attach more security on the tried and true.

Nobody likes change. Not even you....witness:

Were it not for the "template ideal" as you termed it, you would have no foundation for your songs.

Halfway to heaven? V/C/V/C/bridge/V/C - How tried and true is that?
Give you all my love? V/C/V/C/bridge/V/C - Another cookie cutter
The incorrectly titled "Dressed in green?" - V/C/V/C/bridge/pre/C

You used a tool that has proven itself to work over the past decades.

When I typed the "bible stuff"...it served my point, is known by my audience and had the greatest impact.
One set of ears was all I was after.

In closing, Grasshopper, do not give me the power to "make you look" like something that you want to believe you are not.
That power is yours.

You need to lighten up:)

I think we both need to lighten up ! and with your last post i concede. I agree 100% the template works. Having conflicting G.P and artistic goals is challenging and i think i does prohibit sucess and thats why i try and balance the traditional with the rule breaking or unconventional stuff. I will put up this song i just finished and eat my words. Its called "youre so beautiful" and its pop baby all the way.

Cuz, My only question about your post is this;  Do you think that there are feelings, emotions, thoughts, ideas, that you have that have never been thought or felt by anyone ever before?  Or is there some new emotion or idea that you have to convey that is truly revolutionary?

Or, in other words, every song does not need a cum shot,  but  every cum needs a rim shot!

Sorry, I just had to...
